Will Gay Marriage Destroy the American Family?
December 6, 2010
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - A three-judge panel is considering California's same sex marriage ban at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco.
The supporters of Prop 8 spent almost $39,000,000 to get this one issue to the ballot.
Those who opposed Prop 8 spent just over $44,000,000 in an attempt to defeat this issue.

Imagine the myriad of causes that could have benefited from $83,000,000! That's 83 MILLION dollars! (Millions of additional dollars continue to be spent on both sides of this issue).
The National Organization for Marriage, as well as many religious groups state that 7 million Californian's voted in 2008 to define marriage as being between one man and one woman. What they fail to state is that 6,401,482 Californians voted against it. And one "arrogant" federal court judge found it unconstitutional.

Many have even gone as far as to predict the destruction of the family structure.
"Laws supporting gay unions as equal to traditional marriage will ultimately, completely destroy the family structure as we know it today within 20yrs."
The Washington Post
Now, shall we consider some facts?
The US has one of the highest divorce rates in the world 54.8%. Shall we blame gay marriage for this?

(Atwood & Schwartz, 2002 - Journal of Couple & Relationship Therapy)

Considering the state of the American Family, BEFORE gay marriage was legal, it seems logical to conclude that blaming gays for destroying the American Family, or even being a threat is nothing less than absurd! The "destruction" of the "American Family" has been well underway for years without the help or influence of gay marriage.
As history shows, "We the People"used to own human slaves, and we fought hard to keep them.
But guess what? Some arrogant judge decided that it was unconstitutional.
"We the People" used to think that it was unheard of that women should want to the right to vote, or attend college, or be paid the same as men. We fought hard to keep them submissive.
But guess what? Some arrogant judge decided that it was unconstitutional.
And not very long ago, "We the People" used to force "Blacks" to sit in the back of the bus, and drink from separate drinking fountains, and to attend different schools. We fought hard to keep then down.
But guess what? Some arrogant judge decided it was unconstitutional.
So today, "We the People" want to deny gay Americans the right to marriage. Some are fighting hard to "protect our children" (read above), and prevent gays from "destroying" the American Family.
But guess what? Some arrogant judge decided it was unconstitutional.
If religious and conservative groups really wants to do God's work and protect the American Family, it's blatantly obvious that there are a lot of worthy and utterly critical causes that could truly benefit from their generous donation of time, money, and enthusiasm. This would free up an equal amount of time, money and enthusiasm on the opposing side.
Seems logical to me, but what do I know?
YO!
